How can I communicate with teachers?
La Salle Academy strongly encourages parents to communicate with teachers. Written notes, emails, scheduled conferences and especially phone calls foster the “family feel” for which La Salle is noted. Test Folders, and Youngest and Only Folders which are sent home on Wednesdays, are also ways in which teachers communicate with parents.
How do the students use computers and technology?
Technology is fully integrated into the curriculum. Each La Salle Academy student K-8 is issued a chromebook to use at school and at home. Each teacher has email which can be accessed through their page on this website.
What extracurricular activities are available?
La Salle Academy participates in many sports activities through the CYO program and Berks Catholic Youth Sports program. Volleyball, cross country, field hockey, soccer, football, cheerleading, baseball, softball, basketball, ice hockey are just some examples.
Is there financial aid available?
The Eastern Pennsylvania Scholarship Foundation (EPSF) application is available in the spring for the following academic year. The forms will be available on this website as well as in the La Salle Office. In addition each parish provides opportunities for scholarships. You may contact your pastor or the principal for further information. La Salle offers a SuperSaver program which allows you to save on tuition while purchasing your groceries.

Is there a uniform exchange?
Yes, there is a uniform exchange. Parents are encouraged to donate gently loved, outgrown uniforms. Before you buy new uniforms check out the uniform exchange. Take what you can use. This not only helps our wallets but the environment too. What a great way to recycle!
Does LSA ever have a dress down day?
Students enjoy LSA dress down days! A dress down day may have a theme such as Neon Day, Blue and White Day, Career Day, or we may simply have a no uniform day. Many dress down days are hosted in connection to a service project. For example; we may be collecting canned foods for a food bank; blankets and pet foods for an animal shelter, or monetary donations for a designated cause. Notes in Take-home folders, notes from the teacher, alert calls and texts are used to communicate when these days.
What is Red and Green Day?
Red and Green Day is sponsored by the Student Council. For $.50 students are allowed to dress down in red and green to express their Christmas spirit.
VOLUNTEERING AT SCHOOL
How can I volunteer at school?
Parent and grandparent volunteers are a great asset to La Salle Academy. There are opportunities in the cafeteria, the library and at recess in which to volunteer. Please contact the office to let us know of your interest. Parents are sometimes needed as chaperones for field trips. You may let your child’s teacher know if you are available. The PTO provides homeroom parents for each classroom. La Salle Academy does require a background check and attendance at a “Protecting God’s Children” program in order to work with the students.
Do you require background checks for anyone in contact with the children?
Anyone who comes in contact with our children must complete the “Protecting God’s Children” program mandated by the Diocese. We also require Child Abuse, and criminal background checks. Anyone employed by the school as of April 1, 2007 is required to obtain FBI Clearance as well.
LUNCH / SNACKS
What kind of snacks are available for purchase?
Snacks are sold every day at the 9:45 AM recess. We sell a variety of snacks which are low fat. On Fridays eighth grade offers soft pretzels for sale for .50 cents. There is usually one Student Council Bake Sale each month.
When can my child buy ice cream?
Ice Cream may be purchased daily for $1.00 at lunch time.
What is Student Council Bake Sale?
Each month a different grade is asked to provide baked goods for the Bake Sale. Check the LSA monthly calendar for dates and baking class. Children may purchase these snacks for $.50 at recess time.
PARENT-TEACHER ORGANIZATION (PTO)
What is LSA PTO?
The PTO is Parent Teacher Organization at La Salle Academy. The PTO partners with the school to provide some of the extras our students enjoy! PTO hosts many of the socials held in conjunction with LSA family events.
Here are some of the fun events PTO is involved with:
Halloween – this event includes fun snacks, a parade complete with goblins, ghouls and ghosts! Parents welcome!
Holiday Shop – Each December LSA PTO host a Holiday Shop and Santa visit at La Salle. Students can shop for family members, friends and even pets at Holiday Shop. Most items are reasonably priced ($1 to $3). Students enjoy shopping, wrapping and visiting with Santa at this fun event. Volunteering at Holiday Shop is a great way to get into the Holiday Spirit!
Catholic Schools Week Social at Open House- Each year in January Catholic schools throughout the country celebrate Catholic Schools Week. At La Salle we kickoff this week with an Open House on Sunday . The PTO provides snacks for the social and may be involved with other events during the week as requested by LSA staff. Additionally, La Salle activities include Science Fair, Book Fair, Hoops & Jump Ropes for Hearts, a Penny Walk and other fun activities during Catholic Schools week. La Salle welcomes current families to invite a friend considering LSA to events like Open House.
Fun Fridays -Each quarter the LSA PTO hosts a “FUN FRIDAY.” These designated Friday afternoons include fun activities such as movies, game stations, ice cream treats, dances, bingo, art and music activities! We have also incorporated assemblies with visitors such as bald eagles, police dogs, and inspirational people! If you enjoy being creative join us for a PTO meeting and help with a Fun Friday!
In accordance with the guidelines of the Diocese of Allentown protocol, any parent or volunteer who plans to volunteer at school events as well as PTO events needs to attend the Protecting God’s Children class. SCHOOL CLOSINGS
How are families notified of school closings?
In the event of emergencies or inclement weather, a message from the Parent Alert System will be implemented. Also,
La Salle Academy will always follow the decision made by Governor Mifflin School District.
When there is an early closing, and you normally pick up your child in Lot 3, we ask that you pick up your child when your local school district closes, as they are aware of road conditions. You may choose to pick up your child earlier if you are concerned about driving conditions in your area.
There will be no La Care offered on early dismissal days.
Please Note: For students traveling with Governor Mifflin High School students, please listen to what is happening at the high school to know what time Governor Mifflin will pick up La Salle students for the trip home.

- Delayed Openings – If Governor Mifflin announces a one-hour delay, La Salle Academy will also announce a one-hour delay. Anyone transported by another public school district should listen carefully for the decision made by that particular district.
- If La Salle Academy has a one-hour delay, the doors will open one hour later.
- When there is a two-hour delay, preschool and AM prekindergarten classes will be cancelled; full day kindergarten and full day prekindergarten should report two hours late.
- Early Closings – In the event of an early closing due to inclement weather, it is the policy of our school to comply with the decisions made by the local school districts. Due to the volume of incoming phone calls, students may not be permitted to use the phone. Your child will be dismissed to his or her regular bus unless otherwise instructed.
